WELCOME

The National Seasoning Manufacturers Association is the trade association representing the blended seasoning industry.  NSMA was founded in 1973 to address issues arising from supplying seasonings to USDA inspected plants. Our role expanded to represent the seasoning manufacturer sector’s interests with the food regulatory agencies, providing a practical and science-based voice for informing regulatory officials on issues affecting the industry, as well keeping members up-to-date on all the priority issues. Face-to-face meetings and ongoing interactions with FDA and USDA officials, and legislative officials, through NSMA representation, builds trust and credibility to inform and shape the policies that govern us.

We are dedicated to the promotion of the goals and education for the seasoning industry and the affiliated government liaisons, and regulations pertaining to them. We endorse quality and safety standards and endorse compliance with acceptable handling and distribution within the international spice trade.

NSMA works to promote the continued improvement in quality and wholesomeness of incoming spices; and to address issues involved in imported ground spices. The NSMA focal issues are:

  • Food and Ingredient Labeling

  • Bio-terrorism

  • GMOs

  • Allergens

  • Guiding Principles of Standards

  • Codex Alimentarius Standards and Guidelines

  • The Legislative and Regulatory Policy Landscape and Liaisons for Informing Policies

  • Food Safety Modernization Act of 2011

Membership is available to all companies actively engaged in seasoning manufacturing, and companies that support the industry with ingredients, packaging, and other services. We need your experience and insight to ensure the industry is positioned correctly and our voices and concerns are heard and encourage you to join our association. Click here for membership info.
