ABOUT THE SPEAKERS
Warren Stone, President - Zone One Consulting, LLC
Warren Stone is President of Zone One Consulting, LLC. Zone One Consulting aids clients in food defense, Foreign Supplier Verification Programs (FSVP), and environmental monitoring applications, and provides training in these areas. Warren previously spent 12 ½ years as Senior Director of Science Policy at the Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA). In this capacity he collaborated with a broad audience including member company’s scientific and technical staff, regulatory agents, and universities. He is an instructor for various course offerings, including Preventive Controls Qualified Individual, FSVP, food defense, HACCP and Better Process Control School. During his stay with GMA, he served as staff liaison for the Food Defense and Microbiological Safety Committees and led GMA efforts to provide FDA with detailed comments on numerous elements of the Food Safety Modernization Act. Warren is also a past member of the FSPCA Steering Committee and the Food Protection and Defense Institute’s Science Advisory Board.
Warren’s background comprises 42 years of industry experience including a variety of positions in manufacturing and quality assurance during 30 years of in-plant work. He holds both a Master's in Business Administration and a Bachelor of Science. Warren also speaks Spanish.
Karen Everstine, Ph.D., Senior Manager, Scientific Affairs - Decernis
Karen has worked in food protection for more than fifteen years, primarily supporting the food industry in ensuring food authenticity and compliance with regulatory and GFSI food fraud requirements. She leads food fraud initiatives at Decernis, including the Food Fraud Database, a resource that standardizes relevant data to support vulnerability assessments. She previously held both research-based and applied roles in academia, government, and non-profit organizations, and has collaborated with members of the food industry and regulatory agencies on many projects. She received her Ph.D. and MPH from the University of Minnesota.
